On Friday afternoon, the University of Indianapolis college baseball team, a Division II program, got to witness some remarkably rare history. Brady Ware, one of their grad students, did something that nobody has ever accomplished in college baseball history. Ware stamped his name in the record books forever after he hit for the cycle and pitched a no-hitter in the same game.

He rattled off 11 strikeouts in seven innings of work, then went 4-for-4 from the plate, including five RBIs in his team’s 13-0 thrashing of Drury. A mind-blowing stat line, to say the least.

Check it out below.

Brady Ware did something we may never see again

The historic performance surely put the University of Indianapolis baseball on the map. His no-hitter was the first one since 2015 for the Greyhounds and the cycle was the first one for Indy since 2013. Ware’s unbelievable performance came in the second game of a doubleheader, which meant the games were only seven innings in length. Still, he fired a seven-inning shutout to go along with hitting for the cycle, firmly cementing himself in college baseball history forever.

The performance immediately drew comparisons to Shohei Otani, and deservedly so. It got plenty of national media attention from several different outlets the past few days, including ESPN’s SportsCenter. No matter what he accomplishes the rest of his baseball career, it will be impossible for Ware to top that unbelievable performance. Pure perfection.

Simply put, it’s the achievement of a lifetime. It’s unlikely you’ll see that happen again on any level of baseball, let alone college baseball. There are plenty of incredible talents in college baseball like LSU’s Dylan Crews, that will never be able to accomplish what Ware did.

Brady Ware got the scoring started off in the second inning, sending a solo shot to right field to put the Greyhounds up 1-0 on the Panthers. Later in that same inning, he tripled to right center field, bringing in 3 RBIs to put Indy up 4-0. Then in the third inning, with the Greyhounds up 11-0, Ware doubled down the left field line, bringing in one more rush to push his team’s lead to 12-0. After the smoke had cleared in the historic performance, the Drury Panthers were annihilated by the Indianapolis Greyhounds to the tune of a 14-0 beatdown.

Before joining Indianapolis, Ware played for three seasons with the NAIA program, St. Katherine. There, he batted for .406 with 12 home runs and 12 doubles in 2021. As a pitcher, he tallied a 3-2 overall record with 38 strikeouts.

The win dropped Drury to 20-16 overall and improved Indianapolis’ overall record to 17-11.
