SEC play kicks off in full force this weekend, with one of the headliners being Florida traveling to No. 3 LSU, fresh off an upset loss at home to USF. The Gators were ranked No. 13 in the country but dropped out of the AP Poll completely following the disappointing defeat.

LSU opened the season strong with a 17-10 win on the road against then-No. 4-ranked Clemson, but looked like it was just going through the motions last week against Louisiana Tech. The Tigers came away with a comfortable 23-7 win thanks to a strong defensive showing, but could never quite put the hammer down on the Bulldogs.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, the SEC released a new league availability report Friday:

No. 3 LSU Tigers

WR Trey’Dez Green — QUESTIONABLE
WR Destyn Hill — PROBABLE
OL Braelin Moore — PROBABLE
DT Zion Williams — OUT

Florida Gators

RB Treyaun Webb — OUT
DL Michael Boireau — OUT
DB Michael Caraway — OUT
TE Scott Isacks — OUT
EDGE LJ McCray — OUT
OL Fletcher Westphal — OUT
WR Dallas Wilson — OUT

Florida currently leads the all-time series against LSU 34-32-2 and won last year’s matchup 27-16. Prior to last year’s win for the Gators, LSU had won five consecutive meetings dating back to 2019. This year’s matchup however is likely the most important for Florida in the Billy Napier era, as he would sink under .500 as the head coach in Gainesville with a potential loss (20-21).

Following the upset loss to USF last Saturday, Florida fell to just 14-7 in games played at home, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, under Napier. The loss has caused an uproar of fan outrage, calling for the fourth year head coach to be let go prior to the end of the season. A win over LSU in Baton Rouge could certainly help change this narrative, much like last year’s win did.

Florida broke five-year losing streak with win last season

In 2024, Florida opened with a 4-5 record but its win over No. 22 LSU really kicked off a strong end to the season. The Gators went on to win their next three games (No. 9 Ole Miss, Florida State and Tulane) to finish with an 8-5 record.

While the win would be big for the Gators, it would be equally as big for LSU. The Tigers currently sit at No. 3 in this week’s AP Poll, their highest ranking since reaching the No. 1 spot on Dec. 28, 2019. A strong start to conference play for LSU would add yet another big-time win (to go along with Clemson) to its College Football Playoff resume.

Kick-off between No. 3 LSU and Florida on Saturday is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET on ABC. The Tigers are -7 on the spread, according to BetMGM.
