BREAKING: Florida EDGE rusher DeAnthony Lafayette commits to LSU

Florida EDGE rusher DeAnthony Lafayette has committed to LSU, giving the Tigers a second big addition on Thursday after 5-star Lamar Brown.
“It is amazing, this is something any kid dreams of achieving when they touch the field,” Lafayette said when he first grabbed an LSU offer this offseason. “For me to get this offer is unreal.”
LSU became the second SEC team after Vanderbilt to offer the Orlando standout.
The Tigers ultimately beat out Oklahoma and Miami to land Lafayette’s commitment.
Lafayette, a 6-foot-1, 230-pound edge rusher, plays at Lake Nona High School in Orlando, Florida. In his junior year, Lafayette logged 73 tackles, 17.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and 47 quarterback hurries.
Months after the offer arrived, Lafayette still recalls the feeling of being offered by the Tigers in a recruitment led by LSU defensive ends coach Kevin Peoples.
“It was 11 at night and he texted me out of the blue,” Lafayette said. “I didn’t sleep until 1 [a.m.] because I had a feeling I would get offered.”
“It’s in competition for one of the best college football programs of all time, easy.
“Coach Peoples called me and told me he reviewed my film, watched my Rivals camp stuff and said he had to offer me.”

Lafayette added more than 20 scholarship offers during his rise up the recruiting radar since his junior season wrapped up.
He followed up the elite production on Friday nights with intriguing track and field numbers, from an 11.45-second 100-meter dash at 240 pounds to a top-10 finish at the state finals in the discus.
While pass-rushing is Lafayette’s forte, he has also cross-trained as an off-ball linebacker this offseason. It has created a benefit-of-the-doubt scenario with various college programs, hence adding more than 20 scholarship offers since the spring.
Lafayette is commitment No. 16 for LSU’s 2026 recruiting class, which ranks inside the Top 5 of the Rivals Industry Recruiting Rankings.
