Auburn coach Bryan Harsin continues to showcase his sense of humor. He did so again on Thursday night, diving head-first into a brewing SEC beef.

Harsin tweeted a picture of himself with Tigers men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl, calling Auburn an “everything school.” The tweet went off just a few hours after Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari called UK a basketball school. That led to a response from Wildcats football coach Mark Stoops, which quickly made its way around social media.

Calipari made his comments while making the pitch for a new Kentucky basketball practice facility. Stoops instantly weighed in, retweeting Calipari’s comments about being a “basketball school” and reminding him about the football program’s recent postseason success.

“Basketball school?” Stoops tweeted. “I thought we competed in the SEC? #4straightpostseasonwins”

At training camp last week, Harsin again showed his trolling skills when he gave members of the media commemorative t-shirts. Last year, discussion started when Harsin tossed hats out to reporters after practice as a thank you for covering the team, so he had the perfect response this time around, handing out shirts that said, “I went to Auburn football practice and all I got was this war damn t-shirt.”

Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops takes offense to comments, claps back at John Calipari

The University of Kentucky has had a bit of a sports shift over the last several seasons. The Wildcats have long been regarded a basketball school due to their blue blood status and their eight national titles. However, shortcomings in recent seasons for John Calipari’s team has allowed Mark Stoops’ football program to begin sharing that stage.

That back and forth took a strange turn today when Stoops spoke his mind on Twitter. In a recent article on The Athletic, Calipari reaffirmed the Wildcat’s status as a basketball school. Stoops responded with a tweet focusing on his program’s success the last four postseasons.

Calipari’s comments led Stoops to go for the kill shot that was the two team’s recent postseason successes. Stoops’ football team has gone to six straight bowl games and won four straight overall. That has led to a surge in popularity with the program.
