The second to last week of the regular season has become known for not always having the best competition on it. Teams tend to schedule a lighter game before their final game against a rival. For LSU this season, that means welcoming Bryant Vincent and UAB to Death Valley on a Saturday night.

However, UAB has been one of the better Group of Five teams in recent seasons. They even have a history of beating LSU. In 2000, UAB went into Death Valley and beat LSU. While speaking to the media Bryant Vincent was asked about using that game as proof that LSU could be beaten on the right day.

“Yeah, it’s something that we’ve talked about as a staff,” Bryant Vincent said. “We’ve got former players that are connected to this program that were on that team that are excited. So, we have talked about it, we haven’t made any definite plans with that yet.”

“But, we realize that we’re going into Tiger Stadium in a night game. They’re ranked sixth in the country, they’re going to probably play for the SEC Championship, and this is a game that our players, this football team, we’re not gonna back down,” Bryant Vincent said.

“This football team is excited to go into Death Valley on a Saturday night and to play a nationally ranked sixth team that’s gonna play for the SEC Championship. So, this football team will be excited about this challenge and this opportunity.”

Bryant Vincent is only the interim coach for UAB. Prior to the season, Bill Clark had to step away due to health issues with his back. Vincent has taken over and seen the Blazers take a step back to 5-5 after winning two conference titles in Clark’s last four seasons.

Next season, UAB will move to the AAC. They are expected to hire a new head coach. However, Bryant Vincent could still have the interim tag removed. A win over LSU would go a long way to earning that.

Bryant Vincent on Harold Perkins

UAB is going to have its hands full trying to stop freshman phenom, Harold Perkins. The coaches for UAB know this, with Bryant Vincent praising Perkins as the best freshman he’s seen.

“After 12 or 14 hours of film yesterday and last night, he’s a guy that really stood out,” Bryant Vincent said.

“You sit there, you watch him, and you watch all the things that he does. Whether he’s rushing the passer, whether he’s spying the quarterback, whether he’s playing coverage? This is without a doubt the best true freshman I’ve seen in my career. Without a doubt.”
