Former BYU defender Carson Suesue has signed with Oklahoma State out of the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Pete Nakos. Suesue is a former three-star recruit.

Suesue was recruited to BYU as an “athlete” who “could play offense or defense,” per his BYU player bio. He played quarterback in high school, but made the transition to linebacker upon his arrival on campus. He did not record any stats as a linebacker during his time with the Cougars, however.

As a quarterback in high school, Suesue completed 224 of 332 passes for 3,295 yards and 33 touchdowns as a senior. He proved his dual-threat abilities by rushing for 709 yards and nine additional touchdowns to boot.

With his background on both sides of the football, Suesue will once again have to prove his versatility. According to Nakos, Suesue will transition to tight end for the upcoming college football season.

Regardless, he’ll be joining an Oklahoma State program under head coach Mike Gundy, who will be entering his 21st season at the position. The 2024 season was one to forget for the Cowboys, however, as they finished 3-9 overall which snapped the program’s 18-year consecutive bowl streak.

It was the second losing season under Gundy, and first since 2005 — the year in which he took over the program. 3-9 marks the worst record Oklahoma State has ever finished under its longtime head coach.

In 2023, Oklahoma State won 10 games and in 2021, they won 12. Many were surprised to see the drop-off from 2023 to 2024 in Stillwater. However, the Cowboys will look to turn this around quickly. That effort begins on Thursday, Aug. 28 against UT Martin at home inside Boone Pickens Stadium.

The spring transfer portal opened Wednesday, April 16 and will close 10 days later on Friday, April 25. As of this writing, more than 3,600 FBS scholarship players have entered the transfer portal after the 2024-25 season.
