BYU WR Chase Roberts proclaims Cougars will face Texas Tech in Big 12 Championship: 'Promise you that'

BYU receiver Chase Roberts already has his sights set on revenge after losing to Texas Tech on Saturday. In a postgame press conference following the Cougars’ 29-7 loss, he promised that the two teams would meet again for a Big 12 title.
Not only that, but Roberts also asserted BYU would not let a second opportunity against the Red Raiders pass it by. It’s clear Saturday’s defeat certainly didn’t shake his confidence in himself and his teammates.
“Yeah, of course,” Roberts said when asked whether he hoped to meet Tech again in the conference title game. “You always want to play the best, especially when you feel like you left a lot out there. So we’re gonna meet them again. Promise you that. And we’re gonna go beat ’em.”
It was quite a disappointing performance for the Cougars, which fell behind 26-0 before finally scoring their first points with just 7:35 left in the game Saturday. They also committed three turnovers on the afternoon. Roberts led the team in receiving with six catches for 61 yards and a touchdown, which happened to be the only one his team managed.
Even with the loss against Texas Tech, BYU is in control of its destiny in terms of playing for the Big 12 Championship. There are three teams with one loss in the conference as it currently stands: the Cougars, Red Raiders and Cincinnati.

However, BYU faces the Bearcats in two weeks. As long as it wins that game as well as the other two remaining on the schedule, it would play the Red Raiders in the conference championship game.
Before that, however, the Cougars must get through a TCU squad that will be looking to spoil those plans next week. The Horned Frogs lost against Iowa State on Saturday to fall to 3-3 in conference play, but are still a talented team that can’t be taken lightly.
BYU is in just its third season as a member of the Big 12. Last season, the Cougars finished the regular season in a four-way tie for first place but lost the tiebreaker and missed the chance to compete for the conference title.
It will hope to avoid similar chaos this year and can do so as long as it doesn’t allow the loss to the Red Raiders to derail the momentum it had going. If you ask Roberts, that’s a promise.
