Caitlin Clark offers to pay fine for Stephanie White's technical foul

In the Indiana Fever’s 81-54 blowout win over the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday, Fever head coach Stephanie White received a technical foul after yelling at a referee. Fever star Caitlin Clark wasn’t playing due to an injury, but still stood and applauded her coach’s intensity.
Evidently, Clark’s support didn’t stop there. After the game, White revealed Clark offered to pay if the WNBA leveled the Fever head coach with a fine.
“I don’t know about frustrations boiling over, as more to just making a point,” White said about the heated moment. “Caitlin said she’s got me, though. She just got a bonus.”
Each player on the Fever received a $30,000 bonus for winning the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Championship on Tuesday. Before the game, White admitted that the bonus money had been at the “top of the mind” of players. While Fever players were happy to receive the money, Clark criticized the bonus pay system.
“You get more [money] for this than you do if you’re the [WNBA Finals] champion,” Clark said on an Instagram Live after the win. “It makes no sense. Someone tell [WNBA commissioner] Cathy [Engelbert] to help us out.”
Of course, Clark doesn’t need the extra money to be able to afford a WNBA fine. In April of last year, Clark signed an eight-year deal with Nike, reportedly worth up to $28 million, per Rachel Bachman of The Wall Street Journal.

That deal proved lucrative for Nike earlier this week when the iconic brand released The Kobe V Protro, Clark’s personal version of Kobe’s signature shoe. Nike reportedly only sold 13,000 pairs of the shoe. The product sold out in minutes.
Less than an hour after the release of the shoes, pairs were being resold online for hundreds of dollars more than Nike’s retail price. Nike hasn’t released Clark’s own signature shoe line yet, but several experts believe the move could prove historic.
“I think when Caitlin’s shoe comes out it can be a $100 million business,” sneaker insider and author Nick DePaula told Front Office Sports on a recent episode of Front Office Sports Today. “It could become a top five signature franchise across basketball.”
Caitlin Clark is currently out due to a groin injury. On Saturday, she will miss her fifth consecutive game. The Fever are 3-1 in their last four games, and looking to continue to build momentum before Clark returns.
