After losing Curtis Samuel, Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus is bullish on the Carolina Panthers receiving corps replicating their success. In his rankings of every NFL receiving corps, the Panthers slotted in at 21st overall.

Replacing Curtis Samuel

There’s only one explanation for the low ranking of the team’s receiving unit, Samuel’s departure. It’s a good thing the Carolina Panthers took the necessary steps to replace their former receiver.

The team drafted Terrace Marshall Jr. in the second round of this year’s draft. Marshall would’ve been a formidable receiver for any team, but in Carolina, he’s reuniting with Joe Brady. The famed mind behind LSU’s historic offensive season. A season where Marshall scored 13 touchdowns.

Brady lauded Marshall’s ability to stay even-keel. At the position, drops and incompletions happen each game. Marshall just lets it roll off his shoulder. It’s a great trait to have as a receiver. It’s a trait that allows you to free your mind to make the next big play.

Aside from Marshall, the Panthers also signed David Moore away from the Seattle Seahawks. Moore’s been one of the league’s underrated players over recent seasons. The former East Central University wide receiver caught a career-high 6 touchdowns last season.

Factor in the return of Christian McCaffrey from injury and the Panthers have exciting play-makers. Brady has to be salivating at the opportunity to scheme up plays for his talent. The Panthers will have no issues with returning their passing game to the top ten in 2021.

Is the Carolina Panthers’ receiving corps underrated?

Losing Samuel hurts. But replacing him with Marshall Jr. and Moore eases the sting. Their tight-end position underwent a facelift as well. Signing Dan Arnold and drafting Tommy Tremble should help tremendously.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve seen the Panthers have a new quarterback as well. Sam Darnold will be unleashed in Carolina in 2021. While the former New York Jet wasn’t given much to work with, it’s a different story now.

Teddy Bridgewater wasn’t exactly a gunslinger. Darnold under center should help elevate DJ Moore to new heights. That’s worrisome news for defensive coordinators everywhere. Oh yeah, let’s not forget Darnold and Robbie Anderson were lethal together in New York. It was about the only thing that worked for the Jets over the last three years.

The Carolina Panthers receiving corps is sneaky good. It’s explosive, deceiving and underrated. It’ll end the season graded much higher than the 21st overall ranking they received.
