CFP Selection Committee chair reveals how Oregon’s ranking is impacted by blowout loss vs Georgia, strength of schedule

After the College Football Playoff Selection Committee unveiled their updated rankings headed into Week 11 action, chairman Boo Corrigan joined ESPN host Rece Davis to discuss the most popular questions being discussed around college football. Given their unique resume, Oregon became a topic of conversation.
After opening the season with a blowout loss against Georgia, the Oregon Ducks have gone on a run of eight straight wins which have them sitting atop the Pac-12 as the final games approach. Corrigan evaluated Oregon’s resume for the CFP from start to finish.
“It’s certainly a part of what we talk about as we go through this,” said Corrigan. “But the other part of it is they’ve won eight consecutive games, averaging over 40 points per game, beating UCLA – who is well respected by the committee. And again, we’re looking at the overall body of work where it’s not about one game, it’s about what have they done throughout the entire season.”

Whenever a team loses in such shocking fashion before finding success, it will often lead to questions about the pedigree of the other teams. None stack up to Georgia, but Corrigan and the committee clearly believed wins over UCLA and others brought enough to the table for Oregon to enter the playoff picture.
“We’re looking at everything combined as we look at it,” said Corrigan. “Strength of schedule is one of the components that we do look at. But again, how they play as a team, how they play together is really what we’re looking at overall as we got through this process. Again, they’ve been very impressive.”
