Florida Atlantic reportedly hired Charlie Frye as the team’s new offensive coordinator, according to Pete Thamel. Frye, a former quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks and then-Oakland Raiders from 2005-09, was on the Penn State staff as an analyst.

“Sources: FAU is hiring Charlie Frye as the school’s offensive coordinator,” Thamel wrote on Twitter. “Frye is a former NFL quarterback, NFL QB coach and worked at various high schools in Florida. He worked at University if Florida as director of player development. Frye is expected to be FAU’s play caller.”

Florida Atlantic just hired Tom Herman, the former Texas Longhorns head coach, to the same role ahead of the 2023 season.

Frye began his coaching career in 2012 as the offensive coordinator at Jones High School (Fla.) through the 2013 season before going to Wekiva (Fla.) for 2014-15.

Frye joined the Florida Gators for two seasons in 2016 and ‘17 as the Director of Player Development before coaching wide receivers at Ashland in 2018.

In 2019 and ‘20, Frye coached at Central Michigan as the offensive coordinator before going to the Miami Dolphins as the quarterback’s coach in 2021.

Frye played his college football at Akron from 2001-04.
