Chris “Mad Dog” Russo absolutely eviscerated Lane Kiffin for wanting to coach Ole Miss after taking the LSU job this past weekend. The Radio Hall of Famer couldn’t believe the gall on the coach.

“The words I heard out of him this week were absurd,” Russo said on First Take. “First off, we waited two weeks for him to make this decision, and he wasn’t going to make it …He didn’t want to make it until he saw Alabama because he thought he was gonna be able to coach in the SEC Championship game … He wanted to sit tight, because if Alabama lost, Ole Miss was going to play the SEC title game. And he wanted to coach that. That’s why the delay took so long. That’s that hard.

“Number two … ‘I have to ask God, I have to pray on it.’ Hey, let me tell you something. Lane, okay, for me, and I’m religious, God doesn’t care. He’s not interested about you going down 150 miles south to Baton Rouge. He’s not interested. Don’t give me the God stuff. You got more important things to worry about.”

Then for the kicker of it all: Kiffin wanted to keep coaching Ole Miss through their playoff run. He shared the sentiment that the players wanted that, although some have already come out and denied that claim. Ironically, OC Charlie Weiss Jr. is coming back to coach the Rebels in the CFP, despite leaving with Kiffin on the plane to Baton Rouge.

“And number three. And then he tells me, well, my solution was I wanted to coach the team in the playoff,” Russo said. “So he wanted his cake … Who the hell’s going to agree to that? Ole Miss said, ‘what are you crazy? Get out.’ He got booed hell out of at the airport. And then finally, when he did his press conference a couple days ago, he sat there and he said, ‘Well, I don’t know how much money I make.’ What? Ask (Stephen A. Smith) how much money he makes. He’ll give you by the penny.”

For context, here is what Kiffin said in his statement when he confirmed he was leaving for LSU. He hasn’t backed down either.

“My request to do so was denied by Keith Carter despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them so they could better maintain their high level of performance,” Kiffin said. “Unfortunately, that means Friday’s Egg Bowl was my last game coaching the Rebels.”
