Chris Stewart mistakenly calls Kalen DeBoer, Nick Saban on Hey Coach radio show

It’s early for everybody in the college football season. And there are plenty of new faces on the “Hey Coach!” show with the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. It’s still early in the Kalen DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa. Plenty of people are still getting adjusted to not having Nick Saban around, including the show’s host, Chris Stewart.
He mistakenly called Kalen DeBoer, Nick Saban on Wednesday night, before correcting himself.
In July, Alabama announced that they would be renaming the field inside Bryant-Denny Stadium after Nick Saban. On Saturday, they’re set to move forward with plans for the official dedication on Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium against USF.
The man who replaced the recently retired Saban, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, commented on the ceremony and that he plans to continue the winning legacy Saban built during his decade plus leading the Crimson Tide football program.

“It’s unbelievable,” DeBoer said during ‘Hey Coach,’ on Wednesday. “And it’s — obviously everyone would agree in here. That’s more than well deserved and really, really be cool for us to step on that field, know what we’re playing on, know what it stands for, and continue to try to carry on the tradition and legacy.”

That ceremony is also set to take place at the Walk of Champions on University Blvd. There, signage for the stadium will unveiled along with speeches shared by President Dr. Stuart R. Bell, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, and Nick Saban at the ceremony. The Sabans will then proceed to complete the Walk of Champions and make their way to Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Sabans be recognized again at halftime.
While at Alabama, Saban was one of the greatest coaches in college football history. He had a 201-29 record during his time there and managed to win six national championships across both the BCS and College Football Playoff eras.
Alabama will take on the South Florida Bulls in Week 2 of the 2024 college football season. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN and kick is set for Saturday, Sep.7 at 7 p.m. EST.
