CJ Allen injury update: Status of Georgia linebacker revealed by ESPN broadcast

Most things have gone well for Georgia through one half. Kirby Smart‘s team went into the locker room 14-3 thanks to a great defensive effort. But one of the unit’s leaders beat them there due to an injury, linebacker CJ Allen.
ESPN’s Laura Rutledge previously said a left leg injury was bothering Allen. Now, his official status came from Georgia, and it’s a weird one. Allen is out “for now.” Rutledge says it’s something they are still monitoring, seeing if Allen gets back out there.
“The official ruling, right now, for CJ Allen, the star linebacker, is that he’s out for now with a left leg injury,” Rutledge said. “You see the injury that got CJ Allen hurt. He went into the locker room before the half. We’ll continue to see if we see him come back out here.”
So, still something everyone inside Sanford Stadium is going to monitor. Being ruled out is never a positive sign, even if “for now” is added at the end of the designation. Allen apparently could get back out there on the field, though.
If Allen truly is done for the night, he finishes with three tackles. One of those was for a loss. Not the most eye-popping stats but Georgia will miss so much more than his production. The green dot is on Allen’s helmet, making him the quarterback of the defense.

Thinking ahead when it comes to CJ Allen injury
When it comes to Allen, the first question will be about his status moving forward. Georgia is likely set to play for a lot more this season than just two more regular season games. A spot in the SEC Championship is still alive with a win over Texas, while the College Football Playoff is certainly a reality.
But head coach Kirby Smart will keep attention on the pair of games to close out the guaranteed portion of the schedule. You have to imagine getting Allen out there for those is a major desire.
Georgia is done playing conference games, closing out with the nonconference. Charlotte is first up, coming to Athens. Smart then takes his team to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate against Georgia Tech. Last year’s overtime thriller remains fresh in everyone’s memories, hoping for another classic.
Allen figures to be a big part of the equation, mainly in the second game. Smart will hopefully have more information on the situation during his postgame press conference.
