For the second consecutive week, Vanderbilt heads into a tough road environment. Williams-Brice Stadium is waiting for Clark Lea and his team. South Carolina enters the contest ranked No. 10, partly due to the play of quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

Plenty of people viewed Sellers as one of the SEC’s top QBs entering the season, if not placing him at the top spot. While Lea did not provide any kind of rankings, his scouting report of Sellers was glowing. If there is a trait you want in a quarterback, Lea believes Sellers possesses it.

“I think there’s everything you’d want to see out of a quarterback,” Lea said during a Tuesday press conference. “Not necessarily as someone defending a quarterback. I mean, he’s big and physical and smart and makes good decisions with the ball and can create with his legs. He’s got arm strength… He’s really talented in all the areas you want a quarterback to be talented in.”

Speaking to the arm strength, Lea flashed back to South Carolina‘s bowl game last season against Illinois. One play stood out to him to describe exactly what kind of talent Sellers holds. As an Illinois defender hits him, Seller is still able to get a ball out to a wide-open player nearly 60 yards down the field. Lea pointed out how Sellers did not even complete a full follow-through and still got the ball there.

Additionally, the respect goes further than football. Lea spoke quite highly of Sellers, the human, despite never meeting him. To Lea, going up against those types of guys only makes the occasion better.

“I don’t know him,” Lea said. “Obviously, I’ve competed against him but everything I’ve heard about him, he’s a first-class human. Those are the guys you want to compete against. This is going to be a great opportunity for us. I have a ton of respect for him and the way he plays the game.”

Vanderbilt usually feels pretty good about their own quarterback, trotting Diego Pavia out there. He and Sellers going head-to-head so early in the season only adds to the intrigue. There might not be a battle quarterback matchup in Week 3 of the college football season.

Kickoff from Columbia is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET. South Carolina fans will absolutely be fired up for the game, only making the challenge of defending Sellers for four full quarters even more difficult.
