Coaching changes are an annual occurrence – there were 24 in the FBS ranks this cycle – and with coaching changes come coordinator changes.

But not all coordinator changes are tied to new coaches. In this cycle, 63 FBS schools (including FBS newcomer Sam Houston State) have changed offensive coordinators. There have been 42 defensive coordinator changes.

Of the 24 schools with new coaches, 22 have new coordinators on both sides of the ball; Georgia Tech and Western Michigan have new offensive coordinators but both kept their defensive coordinators.

In addition, six schools that didn’t change head coaches have, for various reasons, two new coordinators: Alabama, Arkansas, New Mexico, Syracuse, UCF and Washington State.

The SEC has the most new offensive coordinators, with 10 (the only schools that didn’t change OCs were Florida, LSU, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt). The AAC has nine, which includes league newcomers Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, UAB and UTSA. The ACC has eight, the Big Ten seven, the Pac-12 six, the Mountain West five, the Big 12, Conference USA, the MAC and Sun Belt four each (that includes Big 12 newcomers Cincinnati and UCF) and independents have two.

The AAC has the most new defensive coordinators with eight, including newcomers Charlotte, FAU, North Texas and UAB. The Sun Belt has six. The Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and Sun Belt have five each; the Big 12 numbers includes newcomers BYU, Cincinnati and UCF. The ACC and Pac-12 have four each; the MAC and the Mountain West have two each; and Conference USA has one.

Here’s a look at all the new coordinators in the FBS ranks and their previous job. If a departed coordinator already has a new job, that is listed, too. And schools designated with an asterisk are the ones with new head coaches.
