Each week, On3’s Matt Zenitz takes a look at some interesting stats coming out of that weekend’s games. Here are 10 such stats coming out of Week Seven.

0: Notre Dame suffered its latest tough loss, falling 16-14 to Stanford. The Fighting Irish have three losses, including to Marshall and Stanford. Those two teams have a combined zero wins against FBS opponents other than their victories over the Fighting Irish. They’re 0-7 in other games vs. FBS opponents.

1: A big part of Utah’s 43-42 win over No. 7 USC was the work done by the Utes’ offensive line, coached by Jim Harding. Entering the game, USC’s defense was averaging 7.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. Utah’s offensive line held the Trojans without a sack and to just one tackle for loss.

5: During Tennessee’s 52-49 win over Alabama, Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt became the first opposing wide receiver since the Crimson Tide hired Nick Saban in 2007 to post at least 100 receiving yards and at least three receiving touchdowns against Alabama. Not only that, Hyatt far exceeded both numbers, finishing with 207 yards and five touchdowns. Hyatt also became just the sixth wide receiver since at least 2000 to post five touchdown catches in a matchup between Power 5 teams.

9: Purdue wide receiver Charlie Jones now has more touchdowns this season than the offense of his former team. With two touchdowns during the Boilermakers’ 42-32 win over Nebraska, the Iowa transfer is up to nine receiving TDs for the year, along with 62 catches and 735 yards. Iowa, meanwhile, has seven total offensive touchdowns. Jones had 21 catches for 323 yards and three TDs for the Hawkeyes last season.

13: In its first game since the firing of coach Karl Dorrell and defensive coordinator Chris Wilson, Colorado pulled out an overtime win over California. The Buffaloes’ defense, which had been allowing 43 points per game, limited the Bears to 13 under new DC Gerald Chatman.

16: Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid was one of the stars of the Utes’ win over USC. Kincaid, who had 16 catches, 234 yards and a touchdown, is one of just 14 players in the past 15 seasons with at least 15 catches, at least 200 receiving yards and at least one touchdown in a game between Power 5 teams.

52: Tennessee’s 52 points during its win over Alabama was the highest point total for a Crimson Tide opponent since Sewanee in 1907. Only Vanderbilt (with 78 points in 1906) has scored more than the totals racked up by Tennessee and Sewanee (54).

578: Georgia Southern quarterback Kyle Vantrease posted the highest passing yardage in the FBS ranks in the past two seasons (578) during the Eagles’ 45-38 upset of then-No. 25 James Madison.

916: Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and Arizona quarterback Jayden de Laura combined to throw for 916 yards and eight touchdowns during the Huskies’ 49-39 win over the Wildcats. Penix, who finished with 516 passing yards and four TDs, leads the nation in passing yardage (2,560 yards, 365.7 per game).

1,059: Illinois running back Chase Brown’s 180-yard rushing game during the Fighting Illini’s win over Minnesota has Brown up to 1,059 rushing yards for the year. Since 2008, only four Big Ten running backs have had more rushing yards through seven games — Indiana’s Tevin Coleman (1,192 in 2014), Wisconsin’s Melvin Gordon (1,168 in 2014), Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor (1,112 in 2017 and 1,109 in 2018) and Minnesota’s Mohamed Ibrahim (1,076 in 2020).
