College football coach Keyshawn Wilder, nephew of Ray Lewis, dies

Shenandoah University assistant coach and Ray Lewis‘ nephew, Keyshawn Wilder, has died, per the New York Post. SU released a statement in the wake of Wilder’s death.
“It is with deep sadness that Shenandoah Athletics announces the passing of beloved former student-athlete and assistant football coach, Keyshawn Wilder,” SU wrote. “Wilder’s dedication to the Shenandoah football team was profound both on and off the field. His hard work and compassion for the game translated directly to those around him, and his incredible leadership helped pave the way for new leaders to follow in his footsteps.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, teammates and the entire Shenandoah Football family during this difficult time. We stand with them in solidarity and prayer, and we pray for the strength to bear this very painful loss. May his soul rest in peace.”
Before joining SU’s coaching staff, Wilder played at the school for four seasons. He was a standout cornerback, who made 38 career appearances and amassed 142 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 13 interceptions, 28 pass breakups and a forced fumble.
For his efforts, Wilder reeled in numerous awards during his collegiate career. Most notably, Wilder was named an All-ODAC First-Team selection and VaSID First Team All-State member in 2023.

“He might be the best defensive back I’ve ever been around in 23 years of coaching,” SU head coach Scott Yoder said during the 2023 campaign. “No matter how much we might disagree in certain situations, at the end of the day he and I both want to win a heck of a lot, and we both love the game of football, and I think we respect each other because of that.”
Yoder wasn’t the only who was positively impacted by Wilder. SU president Tracy Fitzsimmons reflected on Wilder’s infectious personality in a post on the school’s official Facebook account.
“Keyshawn was someone who his teammates, players and fellow students looked up to, and he was known as one of the hearts of Shenandoah’s football program,” Fitzsimmons wrote. “He brought joy to those around him, not just in classes and on the field, but also through his singing and dancing during team bus rides. Keyshawn’s spirit will certainly be missed.”
Wilder was working to complete a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. His mother, Lakeisha, is Ray Lewis’ sister. Wilder will undoubtedly be on Shenandoah football players’ minds when they face off against Methodist University in their season-opener on Sept. 6.
