Colorado State QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi no longer with program after Jay Norvell firing

Colorado State quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi is no longer with the team, interim coach Tyson Summers confirmed. The news comes after the Rams fired coach Jay Norvell this week.
“Brayden has chosen to step away from the football team for the remainder of the season but he handled everything extremely well,” Summers said. “I’m very proud of him. I will vouch for him to anyone, anywhere, any time. The guy has won a lot of football games here, been here for a long time and he’s had a challenging situation this year. I look forward to nothing but the best for him.”
Fowler-Nicolosi spent the past four seasons at Colorado State, including as the starter for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He also started the first three games of this season before being benched.
The QB ends his career with the Rams with 6,938 yards passing and 38 touchdowns to 29 interceptions. He’ll have at least one more season of eligibility to use if he decides to play elsewhere.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Fowler-Nicolosi is expected to enter the transfer portal. Prior to this season, Norvell said that the QB was offered up to $600,000 to enter the portal but chose to return to Colorado State. That in mind, he should command plenty of attention in the coming portal cycle.

Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi played high school football for Aledo (TX), where he was a three-star recruit. He ranked as the No. 1,080 overall player and No. 62 quarterback in the 2022 class according to the On3 | Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
Colorado State is 2-5 so far this season and has turned to Jackson Brousseau as its starting QB. He’s thrown for 741 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions through five games this season, though only one of those has been a Rams win.
The Rams now look to salvage what is left of this season following the firing of Norvell and the departure of Fowler-Nicolosi. CSU players will have a 15-day window to enter the transfer portal, which begins five days after Norvell’s firing was announced.
More players are likely to follow the QB’s lead, and we’ll see just how many. But for now, Summers will take the roster he’s got into a matchup against Wyoming this weekend.
