Cormani McClain injury update: Florida CB enters injury tent during game against Tennessee

Florida cornerback Cormani McClain was shaken up during the first quarter of a game against Tennessee on Saturday night. He went down hurt after a play and then quickly entered the team’s injury tent on the sideline.
The play in question occurred toward the end of the first quarter. Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar found Jack Van Dorselaer in the right flats with a short pass.
As Van Dorselaer turned up the field to reach toward the first down marker, he was collapsed down on by Cormani McClain and Kofi Asare. They stopped him for a 6-yard gain, but McClain was shaken up after the play.
Trainers appeared to be working on his left leg, performing some basic stability tests on the field. Then McClain got up and went into the team’s injury tent.
According to Luke Adragna of The Alligator, McClain was carted into the locker room. His injury was described as a lower leg injury.
On3 will provide any further updates as they become available. Florida trailed 14-0 at the time of this writing, with the first quarter quickly coming to a close.

Cormani McClain’s injury, if it ends up preventing him from returning, would be a big deal for Florida. The Gators already came into the game against the Volunteers down four defensive backs — Aaron Gates, Michael Caraway Jr., Dijon Johnson and Javion Toombs were all listed out on the availability reports leading into the game. Meanwhile, Bryce Thornton was listed as a game-time decision.
On the season for Florida, Cormani McClain has accounted for 17 tackles, 1.0 tackles for a loss, one interception and one pass breakup. He’s been a regular contributor in the secondary.
McClain is finally starting to come into his own after a bit of a journey through his early college career. As a five-star prospect and the No. 13 overall recruit in the nation in 2023, McClain opted to commit to Colorado.
He spent one year there before transferring to Florida. That put him closer to home. He hailed from Lakeland (FL) Lakeland in high school, a school that has traditionally produced plenty of Florida players.
