Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Cutter Boley (8) waited for the snap as the Kentucky Wildcats face off against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles at Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky. Nov. 15, 2025.

Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley exited Saturday’s game against No. 14 Vanderbilt late in the second quarter after taking a gnarly hit. He however missed just five plays before returning to the field.

On 1st & 10 from Kentucky‘s 43-yard line, Boley scrambled and found tight end Willie Rodriguez for a gain of 13 yards. After releasing the ball however, Boley was pushed into his teammate Jager Burton‘s leg. This caused his neck to snap back, which knocked his helmet off his head.

He was swiftly replaced by Zach Calzada, who threw an interception on his third pass of the game in relief. Calzada opened the season as Kentucky‘s starter, but had not seen game action since the Wildcats’ 30-23 loss to No. 20 Ole Miss on Sept. 6. In his short stint on Saturday, Calzada completed 3/5 passes for four yards.

Boley looks well on his way to being named SEC Freshman of the Year, as he’s been named SEC Freshman of the Week for three consecutive weeks.

The first nod came after 161 yard passing performance in Kentucky‘s 10-3 road victory over Auburn on Nov. 1. He then passed for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the Wildcats’ dominant 38-7 win over Florida on Nov. 8, earning the award again. Finally, Boley passed for 236 yards and one score in last week’s 42-10 win over Tennessee Tech, adding one more award to his mantle.

“You can’t say enough good things about Cutter (Boley) and the way he is playing,” head coach Mark Stoops said following the win over Florida. “Going back as a staff and watching it Sunday, and even buzzed it again prior to coming in here, so effective. Sure, we’d like to have a couple of those turnovers back, the fumble and the interception, you take those away, and he absolutely played lights out.”
