Danny Kanell calls out Carson Beck for throwing teammates under the bus following upset loss

Danny Kanell didn’t like the way Carson Beck handled himself in his postgame press conference on Friday after No. 2 Miami suffered its first loss of the season. There was one moment in particular that stood out to him after a clip of Beck addressing the game-sealing interception in the 24-21 defeat against Louisville surfaced on social media.
The Hurricanes had managed to drive all the way to the Cardinals 31-yard line before Beck threw his fourth interception of the game with 31 seconds left. He described it as “a miscommunication with the route,” later adding that the receiver, Elijah Lofton, “ran the route wrong.”
Kanell caught wind of the comments from Beck. The Florida State alum laid into the Miami QB for the response, calling out his leadership ability.
“I’m sorry but as a franchise QB you simply throw your guys under the bus like this,” he said.
The four interceptions for Beck on Friday night were more than his season total of three entering the contest. He was 25-of-35 passing for 271 yards and did not score a single touchdown.
In spite of the performance from Beck, the Hurricanes were still in a position to potentially win the game late thanks to its defense, which forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter to set Miami up in the red zone. The defense also forced a punt on the next drive to put the ball back in Beck’s hands.

Unfortunately, he squandered the opportunity despite coming close. Perhaps some frustrations were boiling over postgame which led to his comments about the last play.
“I think there was a miscue or miscommunication of the play, and the routes that were supposed to be run,” Beck said. “The guy was able to undercut it because we weren’t in the right place. We have a perfect play for it. …(Lofton) just ran the route wrong, and I went to go throw it, because we’re hot off the pressure and again, he made a good play on it, but it definitely didn’t help that we ran the wrong play.”
Beck transferred to Miami this offseason after spending the first five seasons of his college career at Georgia. Prior to this loss, he had the Hurricanes off to a 5-0 start and at No. 2 in the country looking like a contender to win the ACC and make the College Football Playoff.
Now he’ll face a lot of pressure to turn things around quickly and avoid those goals slipping out of reach. Miami next faces Stanford at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday in its Week 9 matchup.
