David Pollack suggests Eli Drinkwitz could be a good fit for Florida job

After weeks of speculation, Florida parted ways with head coach Billy Napier on Sunday. Napier, who had been with the program since 2022, led the Gators to a disappointing 22-23 (12-16) record over four seasons. He’s the first full-time Florida head coach to end his tenure with a losing record since Raymond Wolf, who was 13-24 from 1946-1949.
Athletic Director Scott Stricklin will now head the program’s first head coaching search since the 2021 offseason, when head coach Dan Mullen was fired midseason after leading the Gators to a 5-6 start to the year. Stricklin will be looking to finally make the correct move at head coach, as no Florida head coach has lasted four full seasons at the helm since Urban Meyer resigned following the 2010 season.
With the coaching search now in full swing, David Pollack has thrown Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz‘s hat into the ring on the latest edition of ‘See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack‘.
David Pollack proclaims Eli Drinkwitz as Florida candidate
“If I don’t get (Louisville head coach Jeff) Brohm, I’d go to Eli Drinkwitz,” Pollack said. “Again, an offensive mind. He’s been so good. He’s done it with multiple coaches. He loses coaches it seems every year, but he’s such a good coach. I think he’s such a good coach that he replaces them and the offensive success continues. This year, it’s kind of teetering right now and the offense needs to get back on track because they haven’t been really, really good. Eli Drinkwitz has never been at a brand like Florida.

“I think he immediately becomes a better coach because there’s so much access to speed in the state of Florida. It’s so impressive to watch high school football in the state of Florida. It’s always talked about the speed you can recruit for your roster. Drink is a nerdy football coach that takes shots. He’s self-proclaimed nerdy, I’m not calling him nerdy. Drink’s awesome, and he’s also been good with the business side and NIL.”
Over the course of his six seasons at Missouri, Drinkwitz has led the Tigers to a 44-25 (24-21) record. This includes back-to-back 10-win campaigns in 2023 and 2024 (first time since 2013-14) and back-to-back finishes in the final AP Poll Rankings (also first time since 2013-14). This season, Missouri is 6-1 (2-1) and currently sits at No. 15 in the AP Poll.
