Four-star wing Davin Cosby released his top four schools yesterday; Wake Forest, Alabama, Virginia, and NC State. Cosby essentially cut Tennessee and LSU from his group of choices.

Davin Cosby averaged 13 points, shot 35.5 percent from three, and led his Team Loaded Va team to the Adidas 3SSB Championship game. This performance helped jump the 6-foot-5 wing from unranked to On3’s No. 90 ranked player in the 2023 class.

With this recruitment pretty quiet in the public eye, let’s go through all the intel to rank the contenders.

1. Alabama

Alabama offered this summer and made Cosby a priority from the second they offered. Cosby spoke highly of the large campus, and when on his 9/03 visit, he saw the fit he had in the program. Alabama has already been at multiple open gyms during the Fall live evaluation period, including at 12:01 on the first day of the live recruiting period, and the Crimson Tide continues to show him the love. Cosby speaks openly about the relationship he built with assistant Antoine Pettway.

Alabama’s chances: 85 percent

2. Virginia

Cosby is originally from Richmond, Virginia, and has familiarity with Tony Bennett and his program. The way the roster shakes out, there is early playing time available, and Cosby loved the family environment he saw with the team when he visited.

Virginia’s chances: 5 percent

3. Wake Forest

Wake Forest jumped in on Cosby hard and made a quick relationship. Steve Forbes went to see Cosby at 12:01 AM on the first day college coaches could be out during the Fall live evaluation period. Cosby also mentioned Forbes by name when talking about which coaches he had the best relationship with.

Wake Forest’s chances: 5 percent

4. NC State

NC State is the lone Adidas-sponsored school on the list; Cosby played with the Adidas-sponsored Team Loaded VA program. He also transferred to Raleigh (NC) Word of God Academy for his senior season, which is a ten-minute drive from NC State’s campus. Cosby vibed quickly with head coach Kevin Keatts.

NC State’s chances: 5 percent

Final thoughts

From the second Alabama offered, the thought was they were in the lead. Throughout the process, behind the scenes, Tennessee was the only school in the conversation with Alabama. Steve Forbes did well to wedge his way into the mix and make Cosby think. Kevin Keatts’ genuine approach got him in the final conversation, and Tony Bennett’s culture had UVa in the mix.

Cosby canceled his visits to LSU and Tennessee. He officially visited all four of the remaining schools. Cosby put out he will announce on September 24.
