Colorado coach Deion Sanders revealed a bout with bladder cancer on Monday, one that has changed his life completely in the last few months. Sanders had a full bladder replacement, something that “cured” the cancer.

As he revealed the news to the world on Monday afternoon, Sanders shared a long list of folks who had visited, called him or reached out with support. Then he circled back to one name.

“Let me tell you something. Randy Moss,” Sanders said. “Randy Moss called me every other day to make sure I was straight. Randy Moss prayed for me. He and his wife told me what I need to be doing. He’s gone through some things very similar. But Randy Moss, man. I love him to life. Love him more than ever.”

Moss has also battled cancer recently, going through his own fight with cancer found in his bile duct between the pancreas and the liver. He’s slated to return to the airwaves this fall.

But Moss’ experience gave Deion Sanders something he could hold onto during his own ordeal. And Sanders hopes to see him later this year to thank him adequately.

“I pray he’s going to come up to a game this year, I pray that,” Sanders said. “But he gave me so much strength and so much guidance and so much love. Respect and appreciate you. Thank you, Randy. I really appreciate you. I really do.”

Deion Sanders flipped through his phone, rattling off a long list of names that included family, former players and even a handful of rappers. That’s the kind of influence Sanders has.

But as he pleaded with everyone to get routine health screenings, Sanders also revealed how difficult the entire ordeal was for him. It was in the response from those closest to him that he found comfort.

“You have no idea what that did for me. Just to get visits,” Deion Sanders said. “First of all, I didn’t want to see anybody. I’m 180 pounds soaking wet at that time. I didn’t want to see nobody. I didn’t want to see nobody seeing me down, and I’m barely moving around the house. Freddie G. Sanford and the ‘G’ ain’t for good.

“It just wasn’t a good look. And I like to be strong and I like to be me. But I’m thankful that they came to give me love and support and to pray for me.”
