One notable absence from the Sooners’ lineup recently is running back Jovantae Barnes. He’s missed three-straight games heading into the weekend. Coming out of Red River, OU head coach Brent Venables said it was first thought to be a short-term issue, but he has already missed another game because of it with no official designation of what the actual injury to his leg is.
Meanwhile, the Rebels tasted defeat for the first time during Week 8, losing to Georgia 43-35 on the road. QB Trinidad Chambliss threw for a touchdown and 263 yards during the loss.
Chambliss is expected to start this weekend for the Rebels. He came in following Austin Simmons‘ ankle injury in September, but according to On3’s Pete Nakos, Simmons has made good progress and is nearly back to full health. That means he’s expected to be available on to play on Saturday, but the success Chambliss has had in Simmons’ absence has allowed him to stay ahead of Simmons on the depth chart.
Across five starts, Chambliss is 4-1 and has throwing for 1,549 yards, rushing for 323 yards more and totaling 13 touchdowns. With one interception thrown to his credit this season, it’s hard to justify keeping him off the field.
