Dylan Edwards injury update: Kansas State RB heads to locker room with ankle ailment vs. Iowa State

Kansas State running back Dylan Edwards received treatment from the training staff on the sideline during the first quarter of Saturday’s Week 0 opener against Iowa State, ESPN’s Taylor McGregor reported. He is dealing with a left ankle injury and later headed to the locker room.
Edwards appeared to injure his ankle on a first-quarter punt, which was recovered by Iowa State deep in the red zone. He didn’t return to the field from there and went back toward the locker room for further evaluation.
Edwards is preparing for his second season at Kansas State after transferring from Colorado. He’s expected to once again play a key role in the Wildcats backfield this year after sitting third on the roster in rushing yards behind DJ Giddens and Avery Johnson in 2024.
“Dylan Edwards has been spending time with the training staff working on his left ankle,” McGregor said on the broadcast. “They had to tape it up. He has his head down here on the sideline trying to roll out that left ankle, so we’ll keep our eyes on him.”
As the first quarter ended, Edwards returned to the sideline, K-State Online’s Derek Young said in an update. However, he did not have his helmet on and was not in the offensive huddle at the time.

Edwards was a highly rated recruit when he arrived at Colorado in 2023. The Buffaloes leaned heavily on the passing game that year, but he still led the team with 321 rushing yards and a touchdown before entering the transfer portal.
In 2024, Edwards proved to be a strong No. 2 option behind Giddens in the K-State backfield. He ran for 546 yards and five touchdowns while also totaling 133 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the passing game.
This year, Dylan Edwards topped Kansas State’s initial depth chart ahead of the Week 0 opener against Iowa State. He’s expected to take on a key role in the Wildcats backfield this season.
Saturday’s game presented a unique setting as the storied Big 12 rivalry headed to Dublin, Ireland to officially kick off the 2025 season. Weather presented an issue, though, as heavy rain poured after the game got underway in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.
