Last season saw Georgia and Ole Miss produce one of the top games of 2024. Lane Kiffin got a signature win in front of the home crowd, taking down his good friend Kirby Smart. Now, Sanford Stadium has an opportunity to host the matchup, and excitement continues to build.

A lot more will be on the line this time as well. Ole Miss is currently undefeated, leading the way in the SEC rankings. Georgia dropped an early one but remains right in the hunt — both in the SEC and the College Football Playoff. Momentum can really swing back in the Bulldogs’ way with a victory Saturday afternoon.

Before then, there are some injuries both teams are dealing with. Wednesday brought the first SEC injury report of the week, having some big names for Georgia and Ole Miss. At least two more are expected to be released before the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff in Athens.

Lane Kiffin compliments Kirby Smart while also mentioning record vs. Alabama

Kiffin is never afraid to give his true thoughts on the college football landscape. Especially when it comes to a few guys in the coaching profession he is close with. Smart is one of them, going back to when the two were on staff together in Tuscaloosa under Nick Saban.

So, when evaluating the success Smart has had in Athens, Kiffin compared it to Saban. The lone issue being — Smart does not have the best head-to-head record against Alabama, no matter who is the head coach.

“He’s done it a lot longer (than me) and done a great job,” Kiffin said of Smart. “Remember, he went there when I was at Alabama when he took the job and had the first year. They were not playing as well as they’d like and he kind of redid their offense and has never looked back since and really became the new Alabama and kind of built it the exact same way.

“People talk about people leaving coach Saban and what do they take — I think Kirby basically is Nick Saban in almost every area. How he is, how he coaches, everything. How he models his team. And it’s worked. Basically have repeated the program and the success, really against everybody but Alabama.”
