Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz thought his team had downed Auburn on the road thanks to a game-winning field goal in overtime. However, the kick was no good and he did not realize until he was at midfield.

After Auburn missed a field-goal, it appeared as if Drinkwitz’s team would win the game with the field goal. Kicker Robert Meyer‘s field goal however just missed, sending the game to 2OT.

Auburn came out of the gates strong and converted a 12-play, 75-yard drive for a touchdown on its opening possession. Quarterback Jackson Arnold found the end zone from one-yard out, giving the AUBURN Tigers an early 7-0 lead. Missouri however responded with a 24-yard field goal near the end of the first quarter and eventually took the lead on an Ahmad Hardy two-yard rushing score early in the second quarter.

When it looked as if Auburn would possibly collapse like it did in its 20-10 loss to No. 10 Georgia last week, the Tigers kept on fighting. Trailing 10-7, Running back Omar Mabson II capped off a 12-play, 86-yard drive with a one-yard score to give his team a 14-10 lead. Their advantage swelled to 17-10 thanks to an Alex McPherson 22-yard field goal, but Missouri wouldn’t lay down.

Sensing that the game would be over with a punt, Drinkwitz’s Missouri team turned in a masterful five-play, 60-yard drive which culminated in Hardy’s second rushing score of the game (from three yards out) to knot the game at 17. With the game still tied, Mizzou forced a punt and got the ball back with 2:51 remaining. Quarterback Beau Pribula however was intercepted with 18 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Auburn‘s Alex McPherson missed his field goal on the first possession of overtime, which seemingly would end the game. Missouri‘s Robert Meyer however missed his as well, sending the game to 2OT. While Drinkwitz’s gaffe was hilarious, it didn’t quite end up making him look like a fool. His team pulled out the 23-17 win.
