ESPN College GameDay is heading back to Knoxville. In what should be another massive showdown between the Tennessee Volunteers and Georgia Bulldogs, the sport’s premier pregame show will be there as well. The official Tennessee Football X account made the announcement on Saturday afternoon.

“Next week!” they said. “Welcome back to Rocky Top @CollegeGameDay.”

During the Michigan-Oklahoma game, Kirk Herbstreit confirmed GameDay would be in town. Apparently, West Virginia was getting some consideration from ESPN for the Mountaineers’ massive rivalry game against Pitt. However, once the Mountaineers dropped a game to Ohio, plans shifted toward Georgia-Tennessee.

This will be the third time in four years ESPN has chosen to send GameDay to the Georgia-Tennessee game. However, both occasions have been in Athens. This go-round will have Desmond Howard, Rece Davis, Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, and Herbstreit in Knoxville. A nice change of pace for everyone out there.

To this point, final details are still being worked out. Throughout the week, Tennessee will announce an exact location for fans to gather. Signs are set to, once again, be incredible for fans sitting at home on the couch to consume. When the fans are able to bring the energy, the show usually matches it pretty well. Just ask McAfee.

Hopefully, the game itself can wind up being just as good. Both teams won in Week 2, taking care of lesser opponents. A pair of 2-0 records only added to GameDay’s case to select the big-time SEC showdown.

More on Georgia, Tennessee history on ESPN College GameDay

Georgia and Tennessee are among the most highlighted programs in College GameDay’s history. This will be appearance No. 41 for the Bulldogs, while the Vols are just a few behind at 28. However, it’s been a couple of seasons since the crew was in Knoxville.

Oct. 15, 2022, is a day Tennessee fans still remember to this day and will for a long, long time. Taking down then-No. 3 Alabama was a massive win for the program and sent the city into a full-on party. Goalposts were torn down and eventually thrown into a river. Rocky Top will be hoping for similar celebrations with a win on Saturday.

As for Georgia, head coach Kirby Smart is almost too familiar with the GameDay set. Georgia is continually featured on the show. Part of the deal when you are consistently one of the best teams in college football.
