Ethan Lathan is the No. 127 player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. The Fort Lauderdale (FL) Calvary Christian center has proven to be one of the top rim protectors on the Under Armour Next Circuit, averaging close to two blocks while shooting 77 percent from the field.

“I’m a run-and-jump big man,” Lathan told On3. “I don’t want to put myself in a bubble, but defensively I can do everything. I guard the one through the five, I can block shots and do what you need for me to do on that end. On offense, I’m a lob threat, but can also post up. I’ve improved a lot this season offensively, not just being a lob threat but able to score with my back to the basket and around the paint.”

On3 caught up with the 6-foot-10 Ethan Lathan after a recent live viewing to get an update on his recruitment.

Lathan talk recruitment

“I have not taken any visits yet,” Lathan said. “I have offers from Dayton, LSU, Missouri State, Old Dominion, Boise State, and some more. I’m talking to LSU and Old Dominion about visits, as well as Marquette.”

LSU: “They have a historic program. They’ve traditionally bred big men; you got like Shaq. The proof is in the pudding there; they have a great organization. Coach (Ronnie) Hamilton and I are cool. We talk like every other day. They have long and athletic big men, like me. Everything they do kind of fits me, an SEC big. I can definitely see myself doing well in a system like that.”

Marquette: “Coach Shaka (Smart). Someone I hear a lot that I play like is Jaxson Hayes, and Coach Smart was literally his coach, the guy who recruited him. I really love their organization. I really feel like they breed good big men, well at least Coach Smart does.”

Old Dominion: “I was a little hazy on their program at first, but the relationships I have with their coaches have become so strong. It is such a family sense. They look at me so much more than just a basketball player but as a person.”

I’m starting to hear from schools like Providence, USC, Ohio State, and DePaul,” Lathan says. “I think Marquette is close to offering. I’m hearing from a lot.”

In Lathan’s words

I want to commit before the end of the summer,” Lathan said. “Before the start of the school year. I want to sign in October.

“I want to go to a school that best fits me. You know, no school is going to recruit you where you don’t fit what they do. But I want to go somewhere that fits me as a person. No one wants to go somewhere they will be miserable. I’d like to go somewhere that I enjoy the school, I enjoy the scenery, I like the place. I want to go somewhere I can get a degree. The stuff outside of basketball will mean a lot; the basketball stuff will take care of itself.”
