Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons sets a commitment date

After a long series of summer visits in June and July, the nation’s No. 1-rated EDGE in the nation has locked in a commitment date.

Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons is set to reveal his college decision on AUGUST 10 — just days ahead of his senior season at Dallas Metroplex powerhouse Duncanville (Texas) High School as the storied program attempts to repeat as state champions.

He is set to choose between LSU, Miami and Texas.

Simmons, the No. 4 overall recruit in the On300 for the 2024 recruiting cycle, took June official visits to Texas, Alabama and SMU, while also squeezing another visit out West to check out Oregon and another trip to Miami to see the Hurricanes. Simmons made his way to Baton Rouge on the final weekend of July for an unofficial visit, his first since back in the Bayou since taking in the Tigers’ spring game in April.

The in-state Longhorns are currently leading the way on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine over the Tigers. A flurry of those picks came back in June in the aftermath of Simmons’ official visit to Austin.

Under Steve Sarkisian, the Longhorns have been a mainstay with the Lone Star State’s No. 1-rated recruit in the 2024 class since the start of his recruitment. Simmons is a top priority for Texas and been recruited as such in recent months.

“I’ve been to Texas so many times and they say they’re gonna bring it out and I wanna see what they’ve got. Honestly, they need me and they want me real bad,” Simmons told On3 after his spring game at Duncanville.

“The whole coaching staff has really been saying that … I live in Texas, I stay in Texas, so they’re always in my mind and they’re always gonna be in my mind. It’s a great school.”

LSU has also had staying power in Simmons’ recruitment.

The Tigers have hosted Simmons for a string of visits dating back to his sophomore year and recently hosted the Five-Star Plus+ EDGE and his family for a multi-day visit in Baton Rouge. Brian Kelly and Frank Wilson are leading the charge for LSU.

“Obviously, it’s a no-brainer,” said Simmons, when asked about LSU’s chances of getting an official visit in-season.

“LSU’s got an official visit from me. They know what they’re doing and where they stand, and they don’t have to do too much because they already know how I feel about them. They always stay in contact with me.”

Simmons ranks as the No. 5 overall prospect in the country, per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also checks in as the No. 1 overall player from the talented Lone Star State in this 2024 recruiting cycle.
