Florida WR Mike Peterson Jr. plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. That comes per reporting earlier today by On3’s Pete Nakos.

Peterson spent one season as a walk-on with Florida after coming into the program following time in the spring spent at Arkansas State. He then didn’t appear in a game this fall, in what was his true freshman season in college, for the Gators.

A Gainesville native, Peterson played his high school football at Fort White. He finished ranked just outside the Top-1,500 overall recruits and as a three-star in the 2025 recruiting cycle. He also rated as a Top-60 ATH in the class and a Top-200 player out of the state of Florida. That’s according to Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

This is now the latest expected departure this offseason for the Gators, with him among as many as five who have shared news just today that they’ll be leaving Gainesville. It comes in what’ll be the second portal window for Florida, as a month-long one opened during the season after the firing of Billy Napier. Now, with the coaching change to Jon Sumrall, more roster changes like this one are to be expected down in The Swamp.

After having several power-level offers before spending the spring in the Sun Belt within the Group of Five, Peterson is to be available again after one season as a walk-on at his hometown school with Florida. That’s as he intends to have his name in the portal once its two-week window opens up on January 2nd.
