Derby (KS) High four-star running back Dylan Edwards has decommitted from Kansas State. The 5-foot-8, 155 pounder had been committed to the Wildcats since June 23rd.

Edwards sent a statement to On3 regarding his decommitment:

AT THIS MOMENT I’D LIKE TO THANK THE WHOLE KANSAS STATE STAFF AND FAN BASE FOR THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME A WILDCAT.

AFTER RECENT THOUGHTS AND TALKS WITH MY FAMILY, I’D LIKE TO

DECOMMIT AND TAKE A STEP BACK, AND REOPEN MY RECRUITMENT.

KANSAS STATE WILL ALWAYS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART. BUT YOU GET

THIS OPPORTUNITY ONE TIME, AND WITH GOD’S GRACE I’LL PICK WHAT IS FULLY

BEST FOR ME.

-Dylan Edwards

Scouting Summary

“Diminutive playmaker with game-breaking potential,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “A threat to score anytime he gets the ball in space. Has a smaller build for a running back prospect, checking in at a shade over 5-foot-8, 155 pounds the off-season prior to his senior year. A dominant runner and playmaker at the prep level, rushing for 2,603 yards, and 38 touchdowns while averaging a gaudy 12.5 yards per carry as a junior. Regularly rips off long runs, flashing outstanding burst to go with the speed to pull away once in the open field. Validated his play speed by winning the Fastest Man competition at Under Armour Future 50. Uses his lateral agility to make defenders miss tackles in confined spaces. Also shows good field vision, often cutting back across the field. Makes plays in a variety of ways – as a traditional running back, on end arounds, as a receiver out of the backfield or split out wide. Also dangerous as a kick and punt returner.”

“Does not play top competition in Kansas and is almost always the top athlete on the field. Will need to continue adding mass to sustain a sizable workload at the college level. Can also continue improving his ball skills.”

Dylan Edwards currently ranks as the No. 291 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No.16 running back, and the No. 2 player in the state of Kansas.
