Syracuse head coach Fran Brown seems to have no filter, so he called out Stanford GM Andrew Luck for flipping a recruit. Without naming any names, Brown took a friendly shot during Wednesday’s ACC Media Days.

When asked by former coach Mark Richt about the GM position, of which Syracuse has one: Thomas Caporale, Brown referred to Luck first in his story. Richt mentioned that they talked to the former quarterback about working with an interim head coach at Stanford and that’s when Brown laid into him.

Recruiting battles stem from the coaches to the GMs in college football these days. Luck got a win over Brown already in an ACC battle.

“Hey, listen, he did a good job,” Brown said. “He took a commit from us. They went down there and met with him. The kid called me and said ‘Coach, I just think …’ I said ‘where you want to go?’ He was like, ‘Stanford.’ Well this is what I said, ‘Hey, man, I’ll holla at you later dog. Good luck.’ I trust our guy to be that good too, right? Tommy Caporale, Coach Cap, he does an amazing job at it.”

Luck hasn’t been shy about letting his personality fly a little bit in his new role. He even jokingly asked if Stanford should go after Dabo Swinney following this upcoming football season to land him as the permanent head coach.

So, the ACC battles are already fresh on his mind and Brown, being a competitor, will likely want to get that one back. Unfortunately, Syracuse does not play Stanford this season.

Brown also conceded he still calls former coworkers, such as coaches from Georgia when he was an assistant. But now that he’s going into Year 2 as a head coach at a different program, the phone calls are a little less frequent.

“I got to make calls to other people,” Brown said. “I still call (Will) Muschamp sometimes, map some different things out. I’ll still call coach Smart, I call some of the other coaches I worked for. They don’t pick up the phone as much now, you know? Working for them, it was all cool. Now they don’t want to answer the phone of competition. But I appreciate those guys.

“But you got to get information, right? It’s information seeking business. And sure, I think the more I get to learn from everybody. Coach Belichick will know a lot about this, because they’ve had GMs and all. I just think the GM in college is a little different than the GM (in the pros).”
