Frank Scelfo makes Brian Kelly tirade joke ahead of matchup with LSU

Southeastern Louisiana coach Frank Scelfo didn’t miss the opportunity to take a jab at Brian Kelly with his team set to face LSU this week. Scelfo showed up to his weekly press conference Monday with a bandage under his eye, setting him up for the perfect punchline.

“I know I look like probably the reporter that asked Brian Kelly about the run game this weekend,” he quipped. “That guy’s ticked me off already. All he’s gonna do is piss off the head coach at LSU about running the football and then he’s gonna play us.”

Kelly made headlines for his response to a reporter, Michael Cauble of WBRZ, who asked him about the team’s offensive struggles to open up his postgame press conference following a 20-10 win against Florida. The coach went on a rant, seeming to suggest the timing of question was not appropriate.

“Stop, really? Is that the first question?” Kelly asked. “We won the game 20-10. Try another question. What do you want me to tell you? I just laid it out for you. We played the game to win the game. We played the game to win the game.”

LSU might have won the game, but that was largely due to the fact that it’s defense forced five interceptions. The offense managed only one touchdown all game and was outgained by Florida in the win.

Scelfo went on to explain that the bandage on his face was due to a procedure that he had done but that he is “doing great.” It seems his full focus now is preparing for the week ahead against the Tigers.

Frank Schelfo certainly doesn’t appear to be afraid of Kelly and the Tigers, despite entering as a massive underdog in the contest. We’ll see what kind of fight they can put up when the game kicks off at 7:45 p.m. ET on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

Brian Kelly issues apology to reporter for postgame outburst after win vs. Florida

Brian Kelly issued a public apology for his outburst at reporter Michael Cauble of WBRZ postgame after LSU beat Florida 20-10. Kelly was pressed on the first question about issues regarding his offense.

Well, he didn’t take to kindly to that question in the moment and immediately cutoff Cauble. He has since apologized.

“I want to go back to the press conference after the game,” Kelly said Monday. “I’ve texted with Mike and and offered my apology to him for the way I handled the questioning. I think it’s important to understand that you know, my standards relative to how we work with the media on a day to day basis, need to be higher, and I take responsibility for that, and I’ll be better in the future.

“And understanding also that the way I’m thinking after a game, and we’ve mentioned this a couple of times in here, the emotions of the game right after it. I haven’t watched any film. It’s difficult to make those assessments of specifics. And I’m going to defend my team. I’m going to defend my players, first and foremost. But having said that, I publicly apologize to Mike, and he’s an outstanding reporter he works hard. And we’ll do better moving forward. So I just wanted to address that.”
