LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier took a hard shot in the first half of a game against Texas A&M. The hit left him hurting and holding his abdomen, which he’s been nursing for quite some time now.

ABC’s broadcast addressed the injury early in the second half. Sideline reporter Holly Rowe provided the latest.

“Garrett Nussmeier, we saw him get a little bit more injured in the first half, that left ab injury just below his belly button,” Rowe reported on the air. “They are able to do some things at halftime to help him, some topical numbing cream, put some more padding on, massage.”

Nussmeier started the second half, but the LSU offense stalled on its first drive. And Texas A&M quickly took the lead in the second half, then extended it with a 79-yard punt return touchdown to make it 28-18.

As for Garrett Nussmeier, he remained in the contest and was doing his best to gut it out. The Tigers have no intention of pulling him unless forced to.

“Coach (Brian) Kelly said it best: ‘He’s our guy. We can put him together with glue or tape we’re going to do it, because he wants to be out there. He’s so tough.'” Rowe said.

Midway through the third quarter, Nussmeier had gone 16-of-26 passing for 139 yards and a touchdown. However, he had been sacked three times for a loss of 22 yards.

Garrett Nussmeier has been the trigger man for LSU throughout the season, and the crafty veteran has been quite good. Entering Saturday night’s game, he was 154-of-232 passing for 1,638 yards, with 11 touchdown and five interceptions. He had also run for one score.

Prior to enrolling at LSU, Nussmeier was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 88 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 11 quarterback in his class.
