Georgia AD Josh Brooks affirms commitment to UGA amid LSU speculation

As rumors and speculation grow in light of Scott Woodward’s departure as LSU athletics director, Georgia AD Josh Brooks directly addressed the noise. He made it clear that while the Tigers have not contacted him, he doesn’t have any plans to leave Athens.
LSU announced Woodward was out as AD late Thursday amid a week of turmoil. He made the call to fire head football coach Brian Kelly, and On3’s Pete Nakos reported he did so without consulting the university’s Board of Supervisors. Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry then emphatically called out Woodward during a Wednesday press conference.
After Woodward’s firing, Brooks’ name came up right away as a potential target. He’s a Louisiana native and LSU alumnus. However, he made it clear Friday he does not plan on leaving Georgia.
“Georgia fans — with success often comes speculation, but I want to address it directly,” Brooks wrote on X. “I have not been contacted by anyone at LSU, and more importantly, I have no interest in any other job. My full focus remains on the University of Georgia, our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans.
“I am very fortunate to work alongside President [Jere] Morehead, the Athletic Association Board, Governor Brian Kemp, and the Board of Regents, who share a deep commitment to excellence and to the success of Georgia Athletics.”

Josh Brooks: Georgia ‘is home to me’
Josh Brooks was previously Georgia’s director of football operations from 2008-11 before becoming associate AD from 2012-14. Following a stint as the athletics director at Millsaps from 2014-15, he took over as deputy AD at Louisiana-Monroe from 2015-16.
Then, in 2016, Brooks returned to Athens as executive associate athletics director and moved up to deputy AD in 2018. From 2019-20, he was the senior deputy AD before replacing Greg McGarity as athletics director in 2021.
All the while, Brooks said Athens has become “home” for him and his family. That’s why he chose to quiet the rumors early and allow fans to keep their focus on the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party game against Florida in Jacksonville on Saturday.
“This is home to me, and I’m honored to play a part in the incredible progress we’ve made together,” Brooks wrote. “The best days for Georgia Athletics are still ahead, and I look forward to continuing to build on the championship standard we’ve established here in Athens. Let’s go have some fun in Jacksonville! Go Dawgs!”
