Georgia Amoore injury update: Washington Mystics release crushing news on first round pick

Washington Mystics rookie guard Georgia Amoore suffered a torn ACL, according to a team release. The former Kentucky star suffered the injury during Tuesday’s practice and no timetable was given for her return.

The Mystics selected Amoore with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. She was in attendance at the draft for that selection in NYC at The Shed at Hudson Yards.

Through five collegiate seasons with 157 games played for the Hokies and Wildcats, Amoore averaged 15.7 points (40.3% FG, 35.6% 3PT on 2.6 triples made), 5.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.9 steals per game. That includes a career-best season this past year at UK, after transferring to follow her head coach in Kenny Brooks to Lexington, in Amoore posting 19.6 points (42.3% FG, 33.6% 3PT), 6.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steals.

With that, Amoore was twice a selection for All-ACC First Team, when she started her career at Virginia Tech, and was a selection this year as All-SEC First Team. She’s also, over the past two seasons, a seven-time honoree on All-American Teams by the Associated Press, USBWA, Wooden, and WBCA. That’s had her regarded as one of the best players, let alone point guards, in women’s college basketball the past five years.

Amoore is a native of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. She has previously competed for the Australian National Team with appearances at events like the U-18 World Cup and the U-16 Asian Cup.

Amoore has been one of the nation’s best points during her college career in Blacksburg and in Lexington. She’ll now look to be one of the associations best with her selection tonight into the WNBA.
