Georgia gives baseball coach Wes Johnson raise, extension

Coach Wes Johnson has agreed to a contract extension with the Georgia baseball program, the team announced via a press release on Wednesday. The extension will carry him through 2031.
The press release notes that Johnson will receive an increased compensation package, though it does not provide specifics. Johnson has been highly successful in his first two seasons after coming over from LSU.
“I’d like to thank Josh Brooks, President Jere Morehead, and all our fans for their commitment to Georgia Baseball,” Johnson said. “We have received tremendous support from day one, and that is evident from the $45 million renovation that was completed this year that is vital for our player development, recruiting and the overall fan experience at Foley Field.”
Wes Johnson has had immediate success at Georgia. In his first season in 2024, Johnson helped coach Georgia to a No. 7 national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The team came up just short of a trip to the College World Series. Still, it was the best postseason for the program since reaching the finals of the College World Series in 2008.

That success has only continued this season. In fact, Georgia’s been arguably even more successful.
The Bulldogs currently boast a 42-14 record, with an 18-12 record in conference play. The team ranks No. 3 nationally and is widely expected to be a national seed and a Super Regional host.
Better, the momentum only seems to be building for the program. Wes Johnson has been a huge part of that. As a result: a contract extension and raise.
“We are excited to announce a contract extension for Wes, Angie and their family,” said Brooks. “It has been incredible watching our baseball program thrive over the past two seasons. Wes is without a doubt one of the elite head baseball coaches in the country, and his commitment to winning at the highest levels is surpassed only by his dedication to making everyone around him better each and every day. We are excited about the future under his leadership.”
