The Green Bay Packers are in the driver’s seat in the NFC, sporting an 8-2 record. Sunday’s win against the Seattle Seahawks was the latest, moving them tied to first place in the conference with Arizona.

Even with all of the success, comes a few roster moves. On Tuesday, Green Bay placed somebody on IR, released a player, moved somebody onto the active roster, and signed two players to their practice squad.

Beginning with defensive end Whitney Mercilus, who tore his bicep. He has been moved to injured reserve, missing at least three games. Mercilus has played in all 10 games for Green Bay, recording nine tackles, five of which were for a loss, and four sacks.

Second-year linebacker Tipa Galeai was moved to the active roster as a replacement. The former Utah State Aggie has been on the practice squad after being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Packers last year. He appeared in one game during the 2020 season, playing nine snaps against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1.

Packers make practice squad moves

Two players were signed to Green Bay’s practice squad in La’Darius Hamilton and Kerrith Whyte.

Hamilton has played in three games for the Packers this season, not recording any stats. He has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squads.

As for Whyte, the running back is a former seventh-round pick of the Chicago Bears in the 2019 draft. After being waived and signed to the practice squad, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Whyte to their active roster and appeared in six games. He rushed for 122 yards on 24 attempts during the 2019 season.

Finally, Auzoyah Alufohai was released from Green Bay’s practice squad. He was signed on Nov. 3 after being released by the Bears earlier in the year.

Update on running back Aaron Jones

The worst of the Packers’ recent injuries is running back Aaron Jones. He left Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks with what was later announced as an MCL injury.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported a tear was avoided in Jones’ MCL, making sure he does not see any time on injured reserve. He is expected to be out for 1-2 weeks, most likely missing games against the Minnesota Vikings and home against the Los Angeles Rams.

Jones had rushed for 541 yards and three touchdowns on 123 carries this season. Second-year running back AJ Dillon is expected to take over as the starter.
