Tuesday nights in November mean the latest College Football Playoff rankings are being revealed. The first of the 2025 season are now here, getting unveiled on ESPN. As usual, the likes of Greg McElroy were in studio to react and even give their thoughts. More times than not, debate ensues.

Not this time, though. McElroy gave his initial reaction and claimed to be “baffled.” For the first time in a long time, McElroy agreed with what the CFP committee put out there. Based on his explanation, the thought process behind ranking certain teams in certain spots made sense to him.

“I’m, like, baffled right now,” McElroy said during the announcement show. “Because I actually really agree with the rankings. I mean, I don’t have a huge issue. Outside of maybe a team or two that might be slightly too high or too low. This rankings makes sense. This is the first time, in an initial rankings, where it’s like ‘Alright, I understand why they did that. That makes sense to me. They’re putting premiums on how teams look, how consistent they played.’

“They’re penalizing teams that haven’t played anybody just yet or don’t have a great win, ala Oregon. Who looks great but they haven’t played enough people yet to warrant a higher ranking… I just think they did a great job this week and I’m like flabbergasted by it. Tip your hat to the committee.”

Don’t worry, McElroy. There is still plenty of time for you to find something the committee did wrong. After all, a lot of college football is left on the schedule. Week 11 began with MACtion on Tuesday night before eventually getting into an incredible Saturday slate. Movement is set to come in the top 25 based on those results.

McElroy did admit the team he was looking for was Georgia Tech. This came before the top 25 was shown, wanting to see how the committee ranked an 8-1 team that just suffered a loss. Georgia Tech does not have the best Strength of Schedule either, being No. 84 per ESPN.

The Yellow Jackets wound up coming in at No. 17, getting penalized for the most recent loss to the NC State Wolfpack. We can only presume McElroy agrees with how Brent Key‘s team is ranked. Georgia Tech did not come back up for McElroy before the broadcast switched over to a college basketball game.
