Chip Gaines, a longtime fan and booster for the Baylor basketball team who is better known for his show ‘Fixer Upper’ on HGTV, has spent time out of his Wednesday trolling Kentucky fans over their head coaching search.

After letting Big Blue Nation know that Baylor has “God on our side,” when it comes to retaining head coach Scott Drew, a fan on X told him that this is Kentucky basketball and they get who they want. They also said Drew was third on Kentucky’s list and “if he were first, he would probably already be in Lexington.”

Gaines cocked back his fist and let out this tweet:

Dan Hurley, of course, just won two-straight national titles for the UConn Huskies and is many Kentucky fan’s first choice to replace John Calipari, who is now the head coach at Arkansas.

Reports have stated that Kentucky is looking at Scott Drew, Dan Hurley and Billy Donovan as the three candidates to take over in Lexington.

With the rumors so heavily leaning on Drew being the next head coach at Kentucky — Gaines is certainly having his fun and playing with the UK fans. Of course, it’s unlikely Gaines wants Drew to leave Waco as Baylor has risen to new heights during the Drew era.

Drew has spent the past 21 seasons at Baylor to amass a 446-244 record in that span. He won a national championship in the 2021 season and has taken the Bears to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances. He is already the winningest coach in program history with more than double the amount of victories as the person in second place.

A report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein on Wednesday revealed that Baylor head coach Scott Drew would be meeting with the Wildcats soon in Kentucky regarding their head coach vacancy. KSR’s Matt Jones reported on a Wednesday flight from Waco to Lexington that many assumed could be Drew. That did not end up being the case after a tweet from Drew was sent out on Wednesday afternoon revealed that he’s still in Waco, as he was seen having lunch at a Mexican restaurant in the city.

Whether Drew is ultimately named the next head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats remains to be seen, but steam is picking up in Lexington and it’s clear athletic director Mitch Barnhart wants this coaching search to be a swift one.
