Indiana sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Indiana sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after two seasons with the Hoosiers, On3’s Jamie Shaw has learned.
The 6-foot-8 Mgabko averaged 12.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while starting all but one contest at Indiana. He came to Bloomington as one of the country’s most sought-after recruits in the Class of 2023.
Mgbako was ranked as a five-star prospect by multiple recruiting services and finished as the No. 12 recruit nationally in the class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
He was one of the country’s top-scoring freshmen in his first year on campus, starting all 33 games and scoring in double-figures in all but eight outings. He returned to Bloomington as a sophomore with first-round NBA Draft potential, but struggled to improve his stock as the Hoosiers stumbled through Big Ten play.

The mounting losses ultimately led to the team deciding to part ways with head coach Mike Woodson at the end of his fourth season with the program. While Mgbako’s field goal percentage improved significantly over his first year, his overall scoring output and rebounding remained flat.
Mgbako signed with the Hoosiers over dozens of high-major offers that included Kansas, Duke, Kentucky and others. A native of Gladstone (N.J.), he is expected to be among the most wanted underclassman transfers in the country.
