Iowa QB Jackson Stratton plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. He will do so with two years left to play of college eligibility.

Stratton shared that news himself in a post on social media this evening. He, in that statement, expressed his appreciation for the program, as he moves on elsewhere in his career as a grad transfer.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the University of Iowa, my coaches, teammates, training and support staff. Thank you, Hawkeye Nation, for all the love and support you have shown me,” Stratton wrote in his statement. “It’s been an honor to play in Kinnick Stadium and wear the black and gold.”

“With two years of eligibility remaining, I’ll be entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer and proud graduate of the University of Iowa,” wrote Stratton. “I will always be a Hawkeye and am looking forward to the next chapter, new challenges, and the chance to keep doing what I love.”

Stratton spent the past two seasons at Iowa, after transferring in following two seasons, one being a redshirt year, from Colorado State. He, in seven games played in his collegiate career with the Rams and Hawkeyes, is 25-52 (48.1%) for 297 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Most of that came over three appearances, two of those being starts, last fall for Iowa, as Stratton was 21-35 (60%) for 219 yards, averaging just 73.0 per game, and a touchdown for the Hawkeyes. He then didn’t make an appearance this fall as a reserve, with the starter being QB Mark Gronowski.

Stratton, a native of Mission Bay, California, played his high school football at La Jolla. He was a Top-1,000 overall recruit there as a three-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting cycle. He also rated as the No. 50 QB in the class and a Top-75 player out of the state of California. That’s according to Rivals’ Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

In his two seasons in Iowa City, Stratton saw a few games played, namely just at the end of last season for the Hawkeyes. Now, with this decision, he’ll be looking for an opportunity elsewhere, with two years left to play, as the first player from the program to share plans to enter the portal once it opens on January 2nd.
