The Oklahoma Sooners will be the first to take on the new-look Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska recently parted ways with head coach Scott Frost after he dropped two of their first three games. For some, they believe that this game will be a walk in the park for the Sooners. However, according to On3’s Ivan Maisel, this is still a key game for Oklahoma and gives them the opportunity to prove that they are an elite team.

“I think, and again, we don’t really know who this Oklahoma team is yet because they haven’t been tested; this Oklahoma defense will be tested by the Nebraska offense. But also, Dillon Gabriel’s done pretty well to start. We know he’s an accomplished quarterback. He’s in an offense he’s comfortable in, and Nebraska hasn’t stopped anyone.

“So, with that in mind, I think Nebraska is going to push Oklahoma because Nebraska is a pretty good team or should be a pretty good team. And they’re going to play a lot more freely. But I think Oklahoma; it’s still their game to lose even though it is in Lincoln.”

In Oklahoma’s first two games of the season, they have yet to be truly tested by either opponent, UTEP or Kent State. This would be the Sooners’ first matchup of the season against a Power-5 school. And it’ll be their first opportunity to truly test out their new offense under offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby. While Nebraska is amidst a change at head coach, the Sooner should not take them lightly. In fact, Oklahoma can use this game as a statement gaming, proving that they know who they are.

Ivan Maisel stunned by Nebraska’s timing of Scott Frost firing

The recent firing of Nebraska head coach Scott Frost has been a hot topic since it happened. And on a recent episode of 3 Questions with Ivan Maisel, the football expert explained why he was stunned by Nebraska’s timing of Frost’s firing and gave 7.5 million reasons why.

“I was stunned by the timing because money is money is money. And you can save $7.5 million by waiting two games — two games going to October 1,” said Maisel. “I’m just surprised because that’s usually the way ADs think. So, you can give credit to Trev Alberts for deciding to go ahead and make the change and for the reasons he said Sunday. And I respect that, but man, that’s a lot of money. I mean, $7.5 million could pay for some non-revenue sports. It could pay a couple of years’ salary for the next coach. So, I’m just sort of surprised.”

Frost’s last game coaching Nebraska was an upset loss at home to the Georgia Southern Eagles, 45-42. That loss was the Cornhuskers’ first in 215 home games when they scored 35 points or more.
