The power of Deion is in full force at Jackson State.

The Tigers recruiting class jumped into the top 50 of the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking after Kevin Coleman shocked the crowd at Saturday’s All-American Bowl by choosing Jackson State.

“Why not play for the best?” Coleman said, referring to his new head coach Deion Sanders.

The Tigers have the No. 45 recruiting class in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.

Coleman, a four-star wide receiver out of St. Louis St. Mary’s, has a previously announced final schools of Florida State, Miami, Oregon and USC. But the Jackson State hat appeared surprisingly on the set of his announcement at the game, and the rest was history.

Coleman is the No. 71 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

“Kevin is a very exciting player that can do a little bit of everything,” St. Mary’s head coach Ken Turner told On3’s Chad Simmons. “He is a fierce competitor that works hard, and he has all the tools. Kevin will be ready to do big things.”

Coleman’s commitment isn’t as surprising as Five-Star Plus+ athlete Travis Hunter‘s flip last month on early signing day, but it is still a shock. And beyond the immediate impact on the Jackson State recruiting class, it shows that Deion Sanders isn’t done impacting the 2022 recruiting class.

The class could jump even higher in the rankings. Sanders offered former Oklahoma commit and Tulsa (Okla.) Booker T. Washington four-star cornerback Gentry Williams recently and Williams is considering the offer.

And if Hunter and Coleman can flip without anyone suspecting a thing, Sanders may have another surprise or two up his sleeve.
