The Baltimore Ravens are parting way with tight end Jacob Breeland. The six-foot-six second-year tight end was an undrafted free agent pick up by the Ravens last year. According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, this is the second time he is going to be waived by the Ravens.

Breeland has never touched the field for the Ravens. Because after signing, he was designated to the Ravens practice and non-injury football list. He spent the 2020 season recovering from an ACL injury he suffered at Oregon. In July, he was placed on the practice and non-injury list for the second straight season.

Breelands college career

Breeland played at the University of Oregon where he was a starting tight end for three seasons. Over his collegiate career, he had 13 touchdowns and 74 receptions for 1225 yards over 30 games. In the 2019 season, he saw his most production. Breeland had six touchdowns on 26 catches for 405 yards. He was on pace to set the team’s single-season receiving record for a tight end. However, his final season was cut short after tearing his ACL against the University of Colorado. At the time of the injury Breeland had three catches for 53 yards and a touchdown. He played in six of the seven games for Oregon last year.

The Ravens tight end situation

The Ravens currently have seven tight ends on the roster after waiving Breeland. Baltimore relies on their tight ends heavily. As a smash-mouth run-heavy team, depth at tight end is important to their success. Baltimore spent a fifth-round pick on Ben Mason out of Michigan in the draft. They have two solid options at tight end in Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle. They traded a conditional pick in the 2022 draft for Josh Oliver. Oliver was originally the third-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019. He missed 12 games in his rookie season with back and hamstring injuries and missed all of last season with a broken bone in his foot. Rounding out the rest of the tight ends on the roster are Eli Wolf, Eric Tomlinson and Tony Poljan. Also, Pro Bowl fullback Patrick Richard can line up at tight end from time to time.
