Dallas Cowboys starting offensive lineman Jason Peters has been ruled out for the remainder of Monday’s playoff game with a hip injury.

Peters, who started the game at left tackle, has been replaced by Tyler Smith. Smith moved over from the left guard position with Connor McGovern filling in at the spot.

The 40-year-old lineman was injured in the second quarter and left the game at that time.

Dallas led the game over the hosting Tampa Bay Buccaneers 18-0 at the half. Dak Prescott had two passing touchdowns to Dalton Schultz and a rushing touchdown in the first half.

Jason Peters has dealt with playoff injury in the past

Jason Peters — who was raised and went to high school in Queen City, Texas — is in his first year with the Cowboys.

Saturday was only his second start of the season. Peters started the final game of the regular season, a loss to the Washington Commanders, and played all offensive snaps for the first time all season. He had played in 10 games total during the regular season. His one start was the fewest since his rookie season in 2004 with Buffalo.

Despite his long and noteworthy career, Monday was only Peters seventh playoff game of his career. He played in six playoff games for the Eagles over his 11 years with the team.

During Philadelphia’s run to Super Bowl LII, Jason Peters missed the playoffs with an injury he sustained earlier in the season.

The Cowboys entered the game Monday night as favorites against the Buccaneers despite being the road team.
