Week 5 featured five matchups between ranked teams, and two teams ranked in last week’s top ten lost on Saturday. Following a chaotic weekend of action across college football, FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt has revealed his updated top ten teams, including many changes at the top of his rankings.

The AP Top 25 Poll was released on Sunday afternoon, and those rankings also featured some major shakeups. Six new teams joined this week’s Top 25 as we head towards Week 6, and there is a new No. 1 with Alabama leapfrogging Georgia at the top.

For Klatt, though, neither Alabama nor Georgia sits at the top through Week 5. Instead, Ohio State takes that honor after a largely dominant 5-0 start.

Klatt’s updated top ten

  1. Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0)
  2. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0)
  3. Michigan Wolverines (5-0)
  4. Clemson Tigers (5-0)
  5. Georgia Bulldogs (5-0)
  6. Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-0)
  7. USC Trojans (5-0)
  8. Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0)
  9. Tennessee Volunteers (4-0)
  10. Utah Utes (4-1)

Klatt also mentioned four teams that just missed his top ten, with Ole Miss, UCLA, TCU and Kansas just missing the cut.

Georgia received no favors from Klatt, as the Bulldogs dropped down all the way to No. 5 in his rankings. The Bulldogs actually received the most first-place votes (28), edging out Alabama (25) despite coming in at No. 2 in the final top 25 for the week.

Alabama remained at No. 2 for Klatt, with Ohio State taking control of the top spot. The Buckeyes have cruised to their 5-0 start, having essentially no issues all season long. Things are about to get tougher, though, with the heart of Big Ten play fully underway. Alabama, meanwhile, has looked impressive most of the season. After escaping with a close win over Texas in Week 2, the Crimson Tide have dominated the competition in the weeks since then. Even on Saturday against Arkansas, Alabama cruised to a 49-26 victory despite losing Bryce Young to a shoulder injury.

With Georgia falling out of the top four for Klatt, both Michigan and Clemson found themselves sliding into the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively. Clemson is coming off of two consecutive ranked wins, defeating Wake Forest and NC State over the previous two weekends.

Oklahoma State finishes just outside of Klatt’s top five, though the Cowboys still rank highly at No. 6. Oklahoma State picked up a big win over Baylor in Week 5, improving to 4-0 on the season. USC, Penn State, Tennessee, and Utah round out Klatt’s top ten.

Maybe somewhat surprisingly, Ole Miss did not crack the top ten for Klatt. The Rebels just pulled off a close victory over Kentucky on Saturday, and the Rebels leaped up to No. 9 in the AP Poll. But Klatt still has them just on the outside looking in heading into Week 6.
